Calderdale Council has reorganised its playgrounds inspection regime saving £130k per year.
The Playgrounds Inspection Team is responsible for managing and supporting 120 playground sites across Calderdale. Following a downsizing of the team through 2011/12 due to retirements and colleagues leaving the team new ways of working needed to be established.
Sites were prioritised to either monthly or 3 monthly inspections and new technology was introduced. New working practices were established to make best use of the new mobile technology which allowed the maintenance work to be managed electronically reducing paper work and transport requirements.
Improved budget processes also mean that spending can be better planned and controlled.
The changes have made the service more effective and efficient, allowed more accurate control of inspections and allowed the team to react to requests from the public.
